Increase in fuel prices unjustifiable- COPEC

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, COPEC, says the increase in fuel prices is unjustifiable.

This is because the current rate is 38 pesewas more than the approved rate by Parliament. Executive Secretary of COPEC, Duncan Amoah told Nathaniel Nartey that using the COVID-19 pandemic as justification to introduce new levies in the Petroleum Sector is wrong.

He said COPEC will be meeting the Energy Minister on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Director of Corporate Communications at the Ghana Standards Authority says it is illegal for fuel service stations to re-adjust disposing machines after they have been calibrated by the Authority.

Speaking to GBC news in the wake of the increase in fuel prices at the pumps due to the imposition of taxes, Dr. Amponsah Bediako said offenders could be either sent to court or have hefty fines slapped on them.
