Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, says it is not within his powers to accept North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s resignation from the Appointments Committee.
Mr. Ablakwa, in a letter to the Speaker, stated that his decision was taken “after days of careful reflection and thoughtful considerations.
The Speaker said he received the resignation letter just hours before the House went on recess on March 30 this year.
Mr. Bagbin in his welcome address to the House which resumed sitting yesterday from recess said Mr. Ablakwa’s letter has been forwarded to the Committee for consideration.
He said however that this was done within his powers as the Chairman of the Committee of Selection, acting for or on behalf of the Committee.
